KNOW YOUR ARMY
Choose your faction.
Shape your strategy.
Hold a line of Knights, turn wounded Vikings into a threat or build an Umuri formation that fights together. Each faction offers a different way to approach the battlefield.
You can mix factions in your deck. Starting-army requirements count the troops you actually deploy, not those left in your deck. Once activated at the start, these faction passives stay active for that battle even if your army takes losses.

Hold the line
Knights
Start with at least 3 Knights.
Faction bonus
Each qualifying Knight reduces incoming physical attack damage by 1. Unblockable damage bypasses this protection.
Plan your formation
Build a durable formation and make your opponent work for each point of physical damage.

Fight through the wounds
Vikings
Start with at least 3 Vikings.
Faction bonus
Qualifying Vikings gain +1 attack damage while wounded, increasing to +2 when below half their maximum health. These bonuses do not stack.
Plan your formation
An injured Viking can become more dangerous. Balance that extra damage against the risk of losing the troop.

Punish close attacks
Samurai
Start with at least 2 Samurai.
Faction bonus
Qualifying Samurai retaliate for 2 damage against an adjacent attacker, provided both troops survive the attack. Certain protective effects can prevent retaliation.
Plan your formation
Position your Samurai so that an enemy has to weigh the cost of attacking at close range.
United Front
Umuri
Start with at least 1 Umuri troop.
Faction bonus
A qualifying Umuri troop in your front row gains +1 attack damage for each other friendly Umuri directly beside, in front of or behind it. Diagonal neighbours do not count.
Plan your formation
Build a connected formation. Back-row Umuri can support the bonus, but only front-row Umuri receive it.
Magical Burn
Fire Mages
No starting-army threshold.
Faction bonus
Fire Mage magical attacks apply Magical Burn.
Plan your formation
Use magical attacks and ongoing pressure to make your opponent respond to more than the initial hit.
Fill a role in your army
Mercenaries
No faction passive.
Faction bonus
Mercenaries have no shared faction bonus. Their value comes from their individual stats, attacks and abilities.
Plan your formation
Choose the troop that suits your plan, whether you need another front-line fighter or a different tactical option.
Build around your decisions.
Compare the troops and Commander cards, then choose the combination that fits your plan.
