TACTICS OVER CHANCE

Why is Battles of Arunia a no-luck card game?

Because you choose your cards and your actions. Battles of Arunia is a competitive, turn-based strategy card game built around positioning, timing and bluffing—not random card draws.

01

Choose your army

Select the troops you bring into battle from your deck. Build a formation around your plan, rather than waiting to draw the troop you need.

02

Choose your positions

Deploy across the front and back rows. Protect vulnerable troops, control attack range and arrange your army to activate faction bonuses.

03

Choose your Commander cards

Choose which Commander cards to set. There is no shuffled draw deciding which tactical options you receive next.

04

Choose your attacks

Decide which troop attacks, which enemy it targets and when to commit your battle coins. The order of your actions matters.

05

Choose your moment

Time your Commander cards to support an attack, protect a troop or disrupt your opponent. A useful card becomes powerful when played at the right moment.

Easy to learn. Hard to master.

The basics are simple: deploy your army, take turns and defeat your opponent’s troops. Mastery comes from reading their intentions, managing your coins and deciding when to attack, hold back or commit a Commander card. Your opponent’s next move is something to anticipate, not a random draw to hope for.

Looking for a new competitive card game without luck of the draw? Practise in PvE, refine your deck and put your decisions to the test in online PvP.

What about the coin flip? The opening coin flip determines who chooses to go first or second. “No luck” describes the combat: you choose your troops, set cards and actions rather than drawing them randomly.

LEARN THE BASICS

Your first battle starts here.

Six troops. Three commander cards at a time. An army built around your strategy.

01 Introduction

Welcome to Battles of Arunia, a free-to-play, turn-based strategy card game with online PvP. You and your opponent each deploy six troops, then take turns moving and attacking. Defeat your opponent’s army so they have no troops left to win. Troops have ranks from 0 to 10. Your six troops can have a combined rank of up to 10, so choose an army that suits your battling style. Commander cards support your troops. You can use up to 12 in battle, setting three at a time.

02 Decks

Collect troop and commander cards to build your deck. Each deck contains 15 troop cards and 15 commander cards. Before battle, choose six troops from your deck with a combined rank of no more than 10. Include different options so you can adapt your army to your opponent.

03 Troop cards

Each troop has: • Rank — from 0 to 10, based on its strength. • Health — how much damage it can take before being defeated. • Three attacks or abilities — different options to use in battle. • Range — how far its attacks can reach. • Movement — how far it can move each turn. • Faction — the group it belongs to. Some factions provide bonuses that strengthen your troops. Read each faction’s bonus description to see how to activate it and what it does.

04 Commander cards

Your deck contains 15 commander cards, but you can use up to 12 in each battle. Set three at a time. You must use or discard all three before setting the next three. Play up to 3 commander cards on your turn; Counter responses and discards do not count. • Damage cards cost 1 coin and end your turn when played. • Utility cards cost 0 coins and do not end your turn. • Equipment cards attach to your troops to give bonuses. They cost 0 coins and do not end your turn. • Counter cards respond to your opponent’s actions. They cost 0 coins and do not end your turn. Damage cards cannot be played on the battle’s opening turn. The player going second can use them on turn 2. Discarding a commander card does not end your turn, but it does count towards your limit of 12.

05 Preparing for battle

Scout your opponent’s deck to see which troops and commander cards they could bring into battle. Choose six troops and move them into the Prepare for Battle slots. Their combined rank must be 10 or less. Position your troops across the front and back rows. Think about their health, attack range and movement, and check whether your formation activates any faction bonuses. Choose your first three commander cards, then get ready to battle.

06 Coins

Each player starts with 10 battle coins. Your troop’s three attacks or abilities cost 1, 2 or 3 coins, depending on which you choose. Playing a Damage Commander Card costs 1 coin. Utility cards, Equipment cards, Counter cards and discarding Commander Cards cost no coins. Passing your turn costs 1 coin, or is free if you have none left. After you spend your last coin, your coins refill to 10 at the start of your next turn. Troops that have attacked must normally wait until this reset before attacking again. You can use only one 3-coin attack or ability across your army per coin cycle. The troop that uses it cannot use its 3-coin attack or ability during the next coin cycle, but can still use its 1-coin and 2-coin options.

07 Battling

Take turns moving your troops and attacking the enemy. Use positioning and attack range to choose your targets and protect your army. Play commander cards to support your troops, disrupt your opponent or counter an attack. Remember which cards end your turn and which allow you to keep playing. Use or discard all three set commander cards before choosing another three. Keep track of your limit of 12 — discarded cards count too. Defeat all of your opponent’s troops to win.
